Supply chain management
Overview
As our Group imports raw materials such as soybean and canola from all over the world and manufactures, processes and sells a variety of products, we believe that it is our responsibility as a company to consider the environment and human rights throughout the entire supply chain and ensure quality and safety. In order to build a sustainable supply chain, we are facing social and environmental issues, establishing various policies as indicators for initiatives, and working to establish a system for appropriate supply chain management.
Policy
Collaboration with suppliers is important to increase the effectiveness of sustainable procurement. In 2011, our Group established the Sustainable Procurement Policy and Standards, and we ask not only our own company but also our suppliers to comply with them. In addition, to proactively address various issues related to each raw material, we formulated the Palm oil procurement policy in 2020 and the Soybean Procurement Policy in 2022. After formulating each policy, we review them from time to time, for example by strengthening descriptions regarding human rights and the environment.
Initiatives
-
Cooperation with business partners
Conclusion of contracts and agreements that include sustainability clauses
We are in the process of concluding contracts and letters of intent that include sustainability clauses so that procurement can be conducted in accordance with our Sustainable Procurement Policy and Standards.
Checking the status of sustainability initiatives
We ask not only our own company but also all of our suppliers to comply with the "Sustainable Procurement Policy and Standards," and from fiscal 2022, we will use the "CSR Procurement Self-Assessment Questionnaire" (GCNJ Common SAQ)*1 created by the Global Compact Network Japan to conduct surveys of business partners who handle raw materials and other materials to confirm the status of their sustainability initiatives. In fiscal 2023, we expanded the scope of the survey and conducted additional surveys. We will continue to conduct surveys on a regular basis and strive to build a responsible supply chain.
*1 This questionnaire was created by the UN Global Compact Network Japan and is based on international norms and consists of questions reflecting 10 principles in four areas: protection of human rights, elimination of unfair labor practices, response to the environment, and anti-corruption.- Survey target: Business partners that handle raw materials, materials, etc.

Sedex
In 2019, J-OIL MILLS joined Sedex as an A/B member*, which provides a common platform that connects companies and suppliers on a global scale.
Sedex is the world's largest platform for managing and sharing supply chain data, aiming to enable ethical and responsible business practices in global supply chains. Customers and suppliers use a common platform to share information, identify problems with suppliers, understand the status of initiatives to resolve those issues, and work to expand sustainable business practices. When you join Sedex, you are required to complete a worldwide supplier questionnaire (SAQ: Self Assessment Questionnaire) in four areas: "Labor Standards," "Health and Safety," "Environment," and "Business Ethics." Going forward, we will effectively utilize Sedex's program to understand and improve supply chain sustainability issues from a global perspective.*A/B members: Qualified as both A members with buyer functions and B members who respond to SAQs as suppliers.
