Containers and packaging
At J-Oil Mills, we are working on the development of containers and packaging with the keywords of "environmental friendliness" and "usability/ease of use."
In conjunction with product development, we strive to develop containers that are easy to use and address the concerns of our customers, while also being considerate of the global environment.
In addition, in light of the current situation where the waste plastic problem is becoming more serious, in 2019 we established a packaging committee as an internal cross-organizational organization and established the "Guidelines for Containers and Packaging."
We will continue to work together across the company to strengthen the development of containers and packaging that address social issues.
Developing containers and packaging across the company
The "Packaging Working Group", which is organized across the company with the Packaging Procurement Division and Packaging Technology Division at its core, as well as the Research and Development Division, Quality Assurance Division (Customer Service Office), Department Division, Production and Logistics Division, etc., formulate "Guidelines for Containers and Packaging".
Smart Green Pack" from the subcommittee's proposal. ® (a series of paper cartons from J-OIL MILLS that are designed with the global environment and usability in mind). The J-OIL MILLS original paper packs were developed specifically for edible oils
Conventional caps for paper cartons were prone to oil dripping, but we have developed a cap with our own unique shape that prevents oil dripping even in small quantities and makes pouring easy. Furthermore, the cap has a double (W) structure for large and small quantities, allowing the user to choose the amount of pouring according to the application.
The sides of the paper pack are embossed with a unique shape to prevent slipping and to make pouring easier. In addition, an inorganic vapor-deposited film with excellent oxygen barrier properties is laminated to prevent oxidation of the oil and extend the shelf life of the product, along with the light-shielding properties of the paper.
Compared to conventional plastic containers, the amount of plastic used andCO₂initiatives emissions*, and environmentally friendly container design, such as the use of paper made from wood certified as having been harvested, transported, and processed in properly managed forests.
(*) Compared to conventional plastic containers in the same capacity range, plastic use is reduced by more than 60%, and CO₂ (emissions from CO2 in the process from manufacturing to disposal of containers) per kg of oil in a paper carton is reduced by more than 26% (our calculation).
Collaboration with Ajinomoto Group companies
We jointly procure containers and packaging materials with Ajinomoto Co., Ltd. We collaborate with the Ajinomoto Group to accept and consider new proposals, and conduct joint development with suppliers.
By consolidating these initiatives as part of the Ajinomoto Group, we are working together with our suppliers to resolve issues more quickly.

Double cap with drip prevention function
(Patent pending, design registered)

The unique "Drip Prevention Function Cap'' of the "Smart Green Pack" series has a curled shape at the tip of the spout to prevent liquid from dripping from the spout, which was issues with paper container for edible oils. This creates a structure that prevents dripping. In addition, we have further improved usability by adding a hinge structure to the double cap, which allows you to change the amount poured depending on the purpose, and which can be opened and closed with one hand.

SRP cardboard
With the aim of reducing the burden on customers who handle product stocking and display work, and shortening the time it takes to display products, "
The outer box of Sarasara® Canola Oil " 350g PETThe outer box of is made of SRP. In addition, there was a risk that the load would be applied to the opening part, causing the body to bulge or break at the perforations, but we developed and introduced a guiding shape that disperses the load during loading. Reduces the bulge of corrugated cardboard and improves distribution issues.

Fresh Keep Pouch (UD Eco Pouch)

In addition to the gas barrier layer of the pouch, this environmentally friendly package uses biomass materials * for the sealant *.
Easy to open even with wet hands
The opening uses a special varnish that has a non-slip effect.
By converting cardboard to SPR *, boxes can be displayed in their entirety, reducing the workload at stores.

Accessible Design Packaging Award
*Sealant: A material that is bonded with heat to form a bag.
*Biomass material: Renewable organic resource.
*SRP: Abbreviation for Shelf Ready Packaging. The packaging is designed so that it can be opened without using a cutter and can be displayed in stores as is.
160g glass bottle

By making the glass bottle lighter than before and reviewing the shape of the bottle, collisions between the bottles are reduced, and partitions in the outer box are no longer required.
Additionally, by making the outer box more compact, we were able to increase loading efficiency by 30%.

UD cap series

Since 2004, we have expanded the UD caps we introduced to some products to all Household use containers.
In addition to the Braille treatment on the lid, the shape has been improved to prevent oil from dripping, making it easier to handle.

"Here handle ®", "Socket handle ®"
In order to improve work efficiency at our customers' stores, we have adopted a package in which the handle is smoothly formed along the flap of Business use BIB*package.
The use of a soft PP band makes it easy to hold, and the material of the tape attached to the outer box has been revised to make it easier to disassemble.

*BIB (Bag in Box): A Business use liquid container that combines cardboard and a plastic inner bag.
*Flap: A term used to refer to the top and bottom lids of cardboard.
400g UD pouch (standing pouch for edible oils)
The container is made with an exquisite curve that makes it easy to hold and a small unevenness treatment called a "Tsubu tsubu Stopper'' to make it easier to hold. By rolling it up, it becomes 1/10 the size, resulting in a significant reduction in waste.

600gUD engineered copet

We reduced the amount of bottle resin used by 20% and adopted plant-based raw materials for the cap seal.
In order to maintain ease of holding even when the contents are low, the entire bottle is made flat, the bottom part is shaped, and a stopper (indentation: finger spot) is provided to prevent it from falling. It also has a spout that makes it easy to adjust the amount of oil.

Tactile Identification Award
1000g Copacx

This is the first edible oils container to use a paper pack that has been certified as an Eco Mark. The outer box is made of recycled paper and is designed to be easily disassembled. The inner bag can be folded up and thrown away. The handle of the paper pack is recessed to make it easier to hold, and the embossed finish makes it less slippery. Environmentally friendly soybean oil ink is used for printing.
